Warren Palmer

Garden Steward

Warren currently serves as the Garden Steward for Freedom to Grow and an advisor in the Abolitionist Apothecary. Warren is particularly interested in creating “Recovery & Healing“ gardens for people with cancer, diabetes, lupus, memory loss, trauma, and immune deficiencies. He is also interested in creating reentry & recovery gardens for returning citizens.

From the age of 17, Warren “Chopper” Palmer was incarcerated at The Louisiana State Penitentiary, commonly known as Angola, for for a total of 28-years. During his time at Angola, Chopper studied horticulture, finding a deep love for plants even under the oppression of forced labor. While incarcerated he designed several proxy medicinal gardens as a Solitary Gardener for 7-years, including intricate medical and mosquito repellent gardens from his botanical studies. Informed by his lived experience of working the fields in Angola, and through his indigenous-creole wisdom Chopper’s gardens inspired The Abolitionist’s Apothecary.  Upon his release, he started his own botanical holistic company, Locus Hill Holistic Products where he continues to express his love of plants by healing others.
