Resurrection Archives Consultant
LaVerne J. Thompson is a dedicated community leader and advocate based in New Orleans, Louisiana. She currently serves as the President of the Board for RAE 2.0 and as a Board Member for both the Promise of Justice Initiative (PJI) and the Louisiana Crisis Assistance Center (LCAC). Laverne has also served as the Interim Director of Resurrection After Exoneration (RAE), where she revitalized the organization as a mutual aid and disaster relief center in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, providing essential support and fostering community resilience. She currently serves as a consultant to the Resurrection Archives, where she worked with the FTG team to build her husband John Thompson’s archive, and acts as an ambassador for the project.
Laverne's professional experience includes her role as Executive Assistant to Judge Simone Levine at the Louisiana Criminal Court, where she establishes standards and procedures, manages the judge's calendar, and trains new staff. Her extensive background in environmental services management at Ochsner Rehabilitation and Medical Centers showcases her leadership in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and patient care. Laverne holds an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice from Delgado Community College, and also possesses certifications in Advanced Computer Technology and Entrepreneurship.
Beyond her professional achievements, Laverne is deeply committed to peace, abolition, and community empowerment. Her unwavering dedication to social justice makes her a true pillar of strength and compassion in her community.
